Community Spotlight : Joakim Jaegenstedt

This spotlight features a dedicated member who has been doing CrossFit for 4 years. They started with a goal to become a complete athlete, excelling in strength, endurance, mobility, and body control. CrossFit’s measurable workouts and competitive nature made it the perfect fit.   Their current goal is to become the fittest 40 year old in Sweden, with 5 years to prepare. What they enjoy most about CrossFit is the variety—it’s never boring—and the ability to track progress and compete. At ACROSS FITNESS, they love the diverse and supportive community, especially during weekend events like the CrossFit Open.   Since joining, they’ve seen great changes in their routine and energy levels, becoming a morning person for 6 a.m. sessions and pushing harder in group workouts. They feel fitter and healthier than ever. Their advice? “Just try it. Whether it’s the workouts, community, or coaching, there’s something for everyone!

How long have you been doing CrossFit?

**What made you decide to start?

I like the idea of being complete as an athlete - meaning both strong, fast, have good endurance, mobility and body control. Here I see Crossfit as a great fit. I also love to compete, and in Crossfit any workout is measurable so you can always compete against yourself, your targets or your box friends.

What are your fitness goals or objectives?

I've always worked out for life, to stay sane and have energy for work, family and all other commitments. But since a couple of months back I've stated that I want to become the fittest 40 year old in Sweden. Today I'm 35 so I have 5 years to improving my fitness level and become better at all areas of the sport of Crossfit.

**What is the most enjoyable thing about doing CrossFit?

The variety of workouts and movements. It never gets repetetive or boring. Also the measurability and that you always can compete (if you want to).

What do you love about the ACROSS FITNESS box & community?

It's a tight box with a very diverse group from different nationalities and backgrounds. I've both been a part of the PM trainers and now am a part of the AM trainers, and they're all lovely people. But what I like the most is coming down on weekends or events like Crossfit Open etc and meeting everyone in a fairly relaxed setting.

Have you noticed any changes in your daily life since you joined the ACROSS FITNESS box?

I've always been working out, but mostly at our home gym by myself. Working out with other people gives me that extra percentage in effort so the workouts become way more efficient. I've also adapted to the schedule and had to become a morning person to do the 6am workouts. But that has actually increased my energy and recovery levels so I'm very happy about that. The recent updates to the Premium Open Gym schedule have also enabled me to squeeze in an extra workout a week over the weekends. So all in all, I'm healthier and fitter than ever since jouning Across.

**What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about starting CrossFit?

Come try it out. There are so many aspects of it that can be the main motivating factor for doing Crossfit. For me it's the variety of workouts, learning new skills and the competition factor. For others it could be the community, competent coaches or doing things with your body you didn't think was possible. The best way to know is to try it out!
