Community Spotlight : Daniel Gruener

This spotlight features a member who started CrossFit 8 months ago after seeking a greater challenge and progress beyond their previous gym routine. Though initially hesitant, they embraced the challenge and have loved it from the start.   Their goals include losing 5kg, completing a 5km Spartan Race in 2025, and mastering a 20-second handstand—all while building muscle, stamina, and balance for a healthier life. What they enjoy most is the daily challenge and supportive community at ACROSS FITNESS, where everyone is welcoming and non-judgmental, no matter the fitness level. Since joining, they’ve lost over 10kg, feel more energized, and are proud of stepping out of their comfort zone every day. Their advice? “Enjoy the challenge, scale as needed, and give it your best!”

*How long have you been doing CrossFit?

8 months

What made you decide to start?

I was a member at another gym for around 2 years focusing on cross-fit like workouts which was a good start. However, I missed the progress as well as the physical and mental challenge. So, what could be next? For some years now I wanted to try cross-fit and always thought it may be too tough or rather I would be too weak. I then realized why should my imagination limit my potential? Consequently, I decided to sign up for my first classes and from Day 1 I enjoyed the challenge. As long as I do my best it will be fine.

**What are your fitness goals or objectives?

Overall, I want to become my best self, being more performant and living a healthier and well-balanced life. This means gaining more muscle, increasing my stamina, losing weight, and focusing on what really matters. My next goals are to lose at least another 5KG, participate in a 5km Spartan Race in 2025, and be able to hold a proper handstand for about 20 seconds.

What is the most enjoyable thing about doing CrossFit?

The daily challenge and the community. Seriously, every time I check the daily WOD I wonder if I can do it. After every workout then I feel full of pride in what I have achieved because I can be certain that I went out of my comfort zone, did my best and concluded a crazy tough training - together with the pack.

What do you love about the ACROSS FITNESS box & community?

Everyone is super welcoming, loves to laugh, is open-minded and despite being around super fit people, nobody is judging when I have to scale an exercise or using a lighter weight. We are in it together, yet on our individual journeys.

**Have you noticed any changes in your daily life since you joined the ACROSS FITNESS box?

Most certainly. I feel more energized, even more balanced, and lost over 10kg already - hence shopping is a lot of fun again :D

**What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about starting CrossFit?

Embrace and enjoy the challenge. Each session may seem impossible at first - and yes the classes are crazy intense - but you can always scale and make the session your own. Do you best and forget the rest :)
